SimWorks iFlag V4 LED flag display mounted on a sim racing rig

How to Set Up the SimWorks iFlag with SimHub

Good news first: a single SimWorks iFlag arrives pre-configured and ready to race. There is no firmware to flash, no profile to build and no mapping to work through. Connect it to a PC running SimHub and it goes to work.

To get the most out of it, add the free SimWorks Plugin. Everything else below is the cable detail that catches people out, how it mounts, the setup steps, and custom profiles.

Check this first

The iFlag needs a USB-C data cable. Plenty of USB-C cables in the average drawer are charge only, and a charge only cable will power the display without ever carrying data, which looks exactly like a faulty unit. If the iFlag does nothing, this is the first thing to check.

The SimWorks cable is the correct type. It can be added to any product as an add-on at checkout, or bought on its own: USB-C Data Cable, braided nylon.

What you need

  • A SimWorks iFlag
  • A USB-C data cable, either the SimWorks one or a known good data cable of your own
  • A 2.5 mm hex key for the brackets
  • A Windows PC running SimHub
  • A sim that SimHub supports, such as iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione or Le Mans Ultimate

No separate power supply is needed. The iFlag runs entirely from USB.

How does the iFlag mount to my rig?

SimWorks iFlag mounting diagram: short direct mount, medium 39 mm arm and long 74 mm arm, with M3 screws, M3 nuts, M6 screws and T-nuts

Three bracket lengths come in the box, so the display can sit tight against the profile or stand well clear of it. The same mounting system runs across the SimWorks range, so brackets are interchangeable between the iFlag, the iFlag Slim and the Racelogic display.

  • Short — direct mount, no arm
  • Medium — 39 mm arm
  • Long — 74 mm arm

Included: M3 x 6 mm screws, M3 x 25 mm screws and M3 nuts. Everything needed to build any of the three lengths.

Optional add-on: M6 screws and T-nuts, which fix the bracket to 40 series profile. Choose them at checkout if you do not already have spares.

Fits 40 series profile. The only tool needed is a 2.5 mm hex key. If you would rather not use the profile slot at all, the iFlag is light enough for double sided tape.

How to set up an iFlag in SimHub

1

Mount it and plug it in

Fit the bracket length that suits your rig, as above, then connect the iFlag to your PC with a USB-C data cable. A port on the PC itself or a powered USB hub is best.

2

Open SimHub and pick your sim

SimHub is free third party software that reads telemetry from your sim and passes it to hardware like the iFlag. Install it, open it, and make sure the game you race in is selected. Telemetry only reaches the iFlag once the correct sim is chosen and a live session is running.

3

Install the SimWorks Plugin

The iFlag works without it, but the plugin is where the flags, gear display and brightness are controlled. Run the installer and it finds your SimHub folder, closes SimHub if it is open, and puts everything in place on its own.

What does the SimWorks Plugin add?

  • All 14 race flags, each one switched on or off individually and testable on the device
  • Gear display with a choice of fonts and colour themes
  • Spotter alerts and rev limiter flash
  • Brightness control
  • Automatic updates, checked each time SimHub starts

Changes apply straight away, with no SimHub restart. Full detail is on the SimWorks Plugin page.

Plugin UI

Race flag control

Every flag can be toggled on or off and tested on the device, so only the signals you care about reach the iFlag.

How do I import a custom iFlag profile?

Profiles change what the iFlag displays. There is a library of them in the download section of the SimWorks Discord, and swapping between them takes seconds. Download the profile you want, then in SimHub:

  1. Open the RGB Matrix tab
  2. Click Profile Manager
  3. Choose Import Profile and select the file you downloaded

Profiles can be switched at any time, so it is worth trying a few to find the layout that suits how you race.

iFlag not working? Common fixes

Why is my iFlag not lighting up?

Try a different USB-C cable, ideally the SimWorks one or another cable you know carries data. This is by far the most common cause. After that, check the cable is in a PC port or a powered hub rather than an unpowered one.

Why are the flags not changing during a race?

That points at telemetry rather than hardware. Confirm the right game is selected in SimHub and that you are in a live session rather than a menu or a replay.

Why is the SimWorks Plugin not showing in SimHub?

Run the installer again. It upgrades an existing install in place, so running it a second time is safe and usually sorts it.

Can I run two iFlags at once?

Yes. The plugin handles multiple displays on its own, and the double iFlag guide covers the manual route if you would rather set it up by hand.

Still stuck?

The SimWorks Discord is the fastest place to get an answer. Profiles live in the download section, the written tutorials sit in tutorials and guides, and other racers running the same setup are usually around too.
