SimWorks iFlag Slim compact flag display for sim racing

iFlag Slim: SimHub Setup Guide

The iFlag Slim is a compact flag display that sits neatly across the top of a rig. Setting it up is a matter of loading the Slim profile and entering two numbers. Here is the whole process.

The Slim shows flags, and only flags

This is the thing to be clear on before you start. The iFlag Slim is a flag only display. It does not show gear, RPM, lap times or any other telemetry, and there is no way to make it do so. If you want a display that can show more than flags, the full iFlag is the one to look at.

Free SimHub Plugin

Works with the SimWorks Plugin

The Slim is fully supported by the free SimWorks Plugin, which is where flags, brightness and automatic updates are handled. It installs itself into SimHub and costs nothing.

How does the Slim mount to my rig?

SimWorks mounting diagram: short direct mount, medium 39 mm arm and long 74 mm arm, with M3 screws, M3 nuts, M6 screws and T-nuts

Three bracket lengths come in the box. The same mounting system runs across the SimWorks range, so brackets are interchangeable between the Slim, the full iFlag and the Racelogic display.

  • Short — direct mount, no arm
  • Medium — 39 mm arm
  • Long — 74 mm arm

Included: M3 x 6 mm screws, M3 x 25 mm screws and M3 nuts.

Optional add-on: M6 screws and T-nuts, which fix the bracket to 40 series profile. Choose them at checkout if you do not already have spares.

Fits 40 series profile, and the only tool needed is a 2.5 mm hex key. The Slim is light enough for double sided tape on a monitor bezel if you would rather not use the profile slot.

How to set up the iFlag Slim in SimHub

1

Connect it and find your LED range

Plug the Slim in with a USB-C data cable and check SimHub has detected it under Arduino → My Hardware. Make a note of the line reading RGB LEDs from X to X. That first number is needed in a moment, so write it down.

2

Load the iFlag Slim profile

The profile is in the download section of the SimWorks Discord. Once you have it, go to Arduino → RGB LEDs → Profiles Manager, click Import Profile in the window that opens, then Load. You will see two options at the top for RPM lights and five below them for flags.

3

Set the five flag options

Go through each of the five flag entries and set both values the same way every time:

  • Start Position: the number you noted from My Hardware, for example 17
  • LED Count: always 48

The LED count never changes. If flags look cut off or spill onto the wrong part of the display, it is almost always the start position that needs correcting.

What are the two RPM options in the profile?

The two options at the top of the profile are for RPM lights running alongside the Slim, such as an LED RPM Strip. They have nothing to do with the Slim itself, so skip this section entirely if you do not have them.

  • Use the top two options
  • Start Position: your RPM start number from My Hardware
  • LED Count: 16

RPM lights can run a wide range of effects, so this is where there is room to experiment. The Slim flags, being flag only, have no equivalent options.

iFlag Slim not working? Common fixes

Why is SimHub not detecting my iFlag Slim?

Nine times out of ten it is the cable. Plenty of USB-C cables are charge only, and a charge only cable will light the display without ever passing data, which looks exactly like a fault. Swap in the SimWorks cable or another you know carries data, and use a PC port or a powered hub.

Why are the flags showing in the wrong place?

Go back to My Hardware, re-read the first number in the RGB LEDs range, and make sure every one of the five flag entries uses it as the start position with a LED count of 48.

Why does nothing happen on track?

Confirm the correct game is selected in SimHub and that you are in a live session rather than a menu or replay. Worth remembering too that flags only show when the sim actually sends one, so a clean session means a dark display.

The SimWorks Discord is the fastest place to get an answer. Profiles live in the download section, the written tutorials sit in tutorials and guides, and other racers running the same setup are usually around too.
